Barn Cleaner Reducer Pulley Replacement Safety Notice
Patz Material Mover, Manure Stacker and Gutter Cleaner
Attention: Owners of Patz Material Movers, Manure Stackers, and Gutter Cleaners.
Warning
On rare occasions, the gutter chain of a Patz Gutter Cleaner, Manure Stacker, or Material Mover may become jammed in the gutter. If such a jam occurs, extreme tension in the gutter chain can result. The reducer brake is designed to prevent uncontrolled backspin of the reducer mechanism when the power is turned off. Accordingly, when the gutter chain has become jammed, it may be necessary to manually relieve the tension accumulated in the gutter chain. Procedures for doing so are clearly spelled out in the Operator's Manuals.
It has come to the attention of Patz that there have been instances when operators, not properly following the procedure for relieving tension in a jammed gutter chain, have allowed the brake plate with fingers to spin rapidly out of control. When this occurs, the possibility of the operator being struck and injured by the rapidly rotating brake mechanism exists.
If your Patz Gutter Cleaner, Manure Stacker, or Material Mover has a reducer pulley less than 15 3/4" diameter, Contact Patz Corporation immediately. To minimize this potential risk of injury, Patz will provide free of charge a new pulley (15 3/4" diameter) and V-belt for any of the above machines which have a smaller reducer pulley. When the larger pulley and belt are installed, the brake mechanism is entirely covered and the risk of potential injury is minimized. In addition, the procedure of relieving the gutter chain tension is made easier.
It is important that all Patz Gutter Cleaners, Manure Stackers and Material Movers which use a reducer pulley smaller than 15 3/4" diameter have the pulley replaced with the new 15 3/4" pulley. Do not attempt to relieve chain tension or otherwise service a jammed machine until the 15 3/4" pulley has been installed, or serious injury may result.
