950 cu. ft. Patz Model 2400 Vertical Mixer
Born into a farm family, Mike Gross has been in the dairy business for as long as he can remember. In 1975, Mike left his family's farm in Canada to carry on the dairy tradition in the United States. He currently farms in Marlin, WA on Marlin Hutterian Brethren (M.H.B. Farms) which was established in 1982.
Recently, M.H.B. Farms decided to make a change in their feeding method and consulted their local Patz Dealer, Excel Dairy Service, Inc. of Mount Vernon, WA for assistance. To better meet their needs, they replaced their old horizontal mixer with a 950 cu. ft. Patz Model 2400 Twin Screw Vertical Mixer. At this time, M.H.B. Farms feed 300 cows with the potential to expand their herd size to 325 head. With the future in mind, they also invested in rubber side extensions to increase their mixing capacity to 1,100 cu. ft.
Since their purchase, Mike has been very pleased with the quality of the total mixed ration their new mixer produces. He said, "The Patz mixes a lot better than our previous horizontal, and the feed mix is fluffier." The well-blended ration has also resulted in less sorting by the cows, and as Mike reports, "Herd health is getting better."
The Patz Model 2400 is designed with maneuverability in mind. Mike likes that it is only 106-3/4" in height and says that "the low profile is very handy." He also finds that the walking tandem with eight wheels creates a much smoother ride than he had experienced with his old horizontal mixer.
As an added bonus, Mike enjoys the visual appeal of their new Patz, stating, "The blue color is beautiful!"
