Model 400 Stationary Vertical Feed Mixer Success Story

"Old school" mixer is replaced by new technology from Patz!

The Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, strives to maintain state-of-the-art research facilities for faculty and students. So when it came time to replace their old tumble mixer at the Animal and Veterinary Sciences Farm, they did some research and found that a Patz Vertical Mixer would be the best investment for their facility.

Bill Jones, Farm Operator, was looking for a feed mixer that is versatile enough to handle rations for 60 dairy cows, approximately 40 to 50 beef cows, and 250 to 400 sheep. A faculty member had seen a Patz Model 400 Stationary Vertical Mixer and liked what he saw. Bill checked out the Patz website for more information.

According to Bill, "I felt that (the Patz Stationary Mixer) would adapt well to our existing situation."

The University staff agreed that the Patz Model 400 Stationary Vertical Mixer was a good fit for their operation because of its ability to mix a wide variety of feedstuffs. They also liked that the 200 cubic foot vertical mixer is compact enough to fit in most feedrooms.

In spring of 2008, Bill contacted Patz Dealer Mark Knepper of Knepper Enterprises in Berlin, PA, to purchase and install their new Patz Model 400 Stationary Vertical Mixer. They opted to install doors on both sides of their mixer, allowing staff to discharge feed on one side and remove feed samples from the door on the other side.

"We like the convenience of the second door for taking samples or taking out small batches to feed at other locations," says Bill.

Another benefit of this small Patz mixer is that it runs very efficiently using 3-phase power and a 20 HP motor. The University staff also know the “heavy built” design of their Patz Model 400 Stationary Vertical Mixer ensures them that it is built to last so they can count on it for their feed rations today and for whatever rations they need to mix in the future.
