"It handles small batches with ease," says Sam Kinnard of his new 270 cubic foot Patz Model 800 Stationary Vertical Mixer. "The steam up group ration can be as small as only 240 pounds and it mixes thoroughly," he adds.
Sam and his wife Shari of Nor-Kin Farms in Casco, WI, purchased a new Model 800 Stationary Vertical Mixer this year to replace their old tumble mixer. The installation was completed in May and they are very happy with its overall performance and thorough, consistent ration.
"It mixes fast - only 1½ minutes for a complete mix," states Sam. "I also like that the Patz mixer is compact and takes up less space in the feed room."
In addition to their Patz mixer, Nor-Kin Farms also uses a Patz Model 162-A Chain Conveyor and a Model 8916 belt conveyor as part of their feed handling system. The Patz conveyors are set up in the feed room to dump additional ingredients into the Model 800 stationary mixer to formulate their total mixed ration.
Although Nor-Kin Farms doesn't feed any hay at this time, their Patz mixer provides them with the option to add all types of hay in the future.
The Kinnards are not only pleased with their Patz mixer, but also with their local Patz dealer Spartan Construction, Inc. of Luxemburg, WI. "They did a good job on this installation and provide good service," says Sam.
Nor-Kin Farms own 200 acres and rent an additional 40 acres, growing 90 acres of corn and the balance in alfalfa. They have 80 cows with a herd average of 25,600 Milk, 3.8% Butterfat, and 3.0% Protein.
Sam and Shari have three sons, Eric (24), Jason (22) and Adam (16).
