Custom Heifer Producers Count On Patz!
Shar-A-Den Farm in Lebanon, PA, is home to about 230 heifers custom-raised by Dennis and Sharon Wampler. The couple enjoys farming where Dennis' family has farmed for 50 years. To ensure that their property will remain in productive agriculture for many years to come, it has been placed in the Agricultural Preservation Program.
In 1996, the Wamplers decided to make a change from dairy farming and now raise heifers for seven different farming operations with some help from their daughter and son-in-law when needed. Dennis also does custom corn planting and harvesting.
The Wamplers feed a ration of silage, hay and grain to maintain the proper nutritional requirements of the heifers. They count on the reliability of their Patz feed handling equipment to save time and labor. A Patz Model RD-2200 Ring Drive Silo Unloader ensures quick delivery of feed from silo to chute. The silage is thoroughly mixed into the feed ration by their Patz Model 1100 Vertical Mixer and then distributed to the heifers by the Patz Model 8916 Belt Feeder. They are very pleased with the way the Patz vertical mixer works in cooperation with the Patz feeder to distribute the ration.
"We're very happy with how well (the Patz Model 1100) processes hay and the speed with which it mixes," said Dennis. His old mixer was unable to mix and process hay.
